Building some new wheels for general mincing as I have a set of Flows for more gravity orientated riding.
Using DT 350 hubs, WTB i25 KOM rims so just need to decide on spokes.
I’m 14st in my riding kit and they’ll be used for normal XC type stuff on the Malvern Hills.
    Choices are:
    DT Revolution – light
DT Competition – not so light
DT Super-Comp – a bit heavier than the Comps.

I’m going towards Comps but does anyone have experience of Rev’s for a heavier rider?
Also, what about Rev’s on the front, Comps on the back?
Will be using brass nipples as the rims don’t have eyelets.

    Even more choices…

    DT Comp 2.0:
    2.0-1.8-20
    382g

    DT Comp 1.8:
    1.8-1.6-1.8
    311g

    DT Comp Race:
    2.0-1.6-20
    312g

    DT Rev:
    2.0-1.5-2.0
    283g

    DT Alpine III:
    2.34-1.8-2.0
    418g

    DT Super Comp
    2.0-1.7-1.8
    318g

    Diameters are elbow-middle-thread.
Weights are for 64 spokes, 264 mm.

I’ve never broken a spoke on a mountainbike, but I’d be tempted by the Alpine III for its thicker elbow if I was building a stronger rear wheel.

    Just built a couple of pairs of wheels using these;

they’ve been very good so far, just slightly heavier than revolutions

Personally I’d probably just use Comps for off-road wheels, but if you wanted to make some sort of weight saving, what I’m doing with my next road disc build is:
    – front wheel all Revs except for the trailing spokes on the disc side
    – rear wheel all Comps except for the leading spokes on the disc side

Gives half the saving of full Revs (ie 50g or so), but keeps Comps on the highly tensioned rear drive side and the main spokes that carry the braking loads.

Using anything less widely available than Revs starts getting pretty expensive.

Id avoid the supercomps if only for the fact they use a 1.8 nipple which is a pain. The Comp Race is a better spoke for your application I think. A Comp Race wheel @32h will take most anything, just be careful not to let the spokes twist up on building.
