not exactly XC but is used in XC races, some times the head is too slack to get round extremely tight turns!
so that's it then a whole week of waiting and only one sub28lb nicolai. thanks for your pics some lovely bikes here and lots of chat about the weight of various bits and pieces which is or isn't relevant dependant on your view of life.
Glad I could be of assistance

have a look at the "help with german ebay thread"....
To be honest, I reckon we could get rid of about 90% of the submissions, but it depends what you call light!
I agree with njee20. There are a lot of mid to high 20's bikes on here, some of you people not understand the principle of weight weenie-ism

at the risk of getting banned from this forum - my wallet finger is getting twitchy and i'm looking for a new frame. the more "exotic" the better but I'm particularly interested to see any nicolai, santa cruz and yeti xc racers
There's been a few of them...
Nicolai Helius CC with mainly titanium bolts. But it would not suit a weight weenie as it has a Rohloff lol
That, and it has the world's most gopping mudguards...
That is a long stem.
Are those brake-bosses specifically to mount the mudguards?
Something going on with the brake hoses too.
Dougal, they must be.... the horror.
That's a folding helius too, the travel version. http://nicolai.net/products/e-frames/e-helius-cc-trv.html
So pretty custom, with a rolhoff, and v-mounts, yet why the massive stem? Built for someone else? but then why would they want the random features?
Why the mudguards? They look bloody daft - IMO of course
Seriously if you want to keep clean surely summer road biking or maybe exercise biking in your living room maybe a better option.
Nowt wrong with mudguards on al all-day bike like that Nicolai.
so - this has taken a different direction while i've been out at the park throwing the kids down the slide...
is mudguards on a bike a bit like a [real]man carrying an umbrella?
Weight is a relative term. Light for a full sus is sub 20lb, a light hardtail is sub 15lb, a light AM bike is sub 24lb and a light DH bike is sub 30lb. None of those weights will get you a good bike though, just a light one.
Personally mid 20's is perfect for an XC bike.
Nothing wrong with mudguards in the mud, do look at bit crap though.
The Nicolai Helius CC is in its winter guise. It can be set up for v brakes if wanted. The rear mudguard uses the bosses (with alloy bolts weight weenies). The stem is 120mm (a little out of fashion at the moment), but will replace it with a 110mm come Spring. It's current ugliness makes it look less attractive to thieves...I like to think.
Not sure what the weight is but here's my Anthem...
i like it, not too heavy
and no to mud guards...

I'd argue that those weights are very light (or ever "too light"), not just light. A light XC hardtail is sub 22lbs, a light full suss sub 25lbs IMHO. The vast majority of bikes being heavier than that.

if you want a light weight nicolai, i think you'd need a Helius RC to start with. RC has loads of tweaky light weight weenie Ti hardware as standard. theres a bloke on MTBR who's built an AC (140mm trail bike) upto 26lb, which considering its an all alloy/CNC 140mm frame with a DT shock and forks, it's on the light side.
Forgot to mention mine's got the Ti bolt kit on it too - Weight weenie points for me he hee
Got my baby second hand from bod at work... 80mm travel LIGHT SO SO SO FAST!
AFTER a YEAR of NO suss IT feels LIKE a DH-rig. [that also goes uphill]
