I have a problem with the Ultegra Right hand lever that operates the rear mech shifter. I have a lever currently sitting on bars without cables. The ratchet mechanism is in the wrong place , ie the cable carrier is not lined up with the access hole at the bottom of the lever (making sense?). How do I release the ratchet to move the mechanism around to line up so that I can rethread the cable through the lever?
    Thanks

It needs to be in the ‘smallest’ sprocket – ie press the black ‘release’ lever at least 9 times to shift down the block.

I thought so, with no cable fitted will the mechanism still shift?
    Thanks

Yep, it’ll still move with no cable attached. If you think when you downshift it’s sprung anyway, the cable’s not doing anything.

If they have been sitting for a while the grease can get too sticky and stop the pawl from releasing.
A good spay with a thin lube or solvent can get it moving again.

All good now thanks for the tips.
