Can anyone recommend a cheap but effective way of scanning slides? I have a basic scanner on my multi-function printer and don’t want to invest any serious money in any proper slide scanners since this is a one off. can it be done? I guessed all I need to do is make a mask for each slide.

as i understand you need a scanner with a light in the lid. the correct mask also helps as the scanner takes a reading from cut outs in the mask, however you can get round it with vuescan or similar.

decent flat beds that’ll do negs etc can be bought very cheaply from ebay or the like, to save on post which pushes the price up do a local search and be patient. i just got a nice epson that way. i’ve even got a basic canon that will do single slides i’d sell cheap, but as i say postage would add up the total.
