I am considering this as my home cinema DVD player is packing in (the internal amp keeps cutting channels out), I get driven mad by the noise the fan makes on my Bluray (PS3) and wanted to upgrade to a Bluray with home cinema but don’t want the speakers everywhere (my kids fiddling with them drives me up the wall).

So my plan is – use the PS3 for gaming only, get a cheaper Bluray (around £100ish) and a separate Soundbar. I know it is only 2.1 sound but for the vast majority of the time I wouldn’t mind that at all (again, with having kids we never get to blast out the home cinema these days anyway).

Anyone got a similar set-up, are you happy with it?

I have a Panasonic BluRay player one of the cheaper ones that was not bundled and then got an old surround sound system with an optical in feed and just run the sub center and two side speakers. No leads trailing about the place and superb sound.

My pal has one of these Yamaha sounds OK
