  • Fox Float RP23 slight knocking in firm/lock-out mode – any advice?

Got a Fox RP23 BV about 18 months old – it’s the posh ‘Factory’ one with Kashima etc. The shock’s probably got about 100 hours’ ride time on it (it’s on my less-used Alps/Lakes bike) and there’s now a slight knocking I can feel when I’m riding. Definitely not the bushings (although that’s what it feels like), and it’s only present when the shock’s set in firm/lock-out with the blue lever fully to the left. Shock feels fine and plush in active mode. Any ideas what the problem is? Am I likely to damage the shock if I leave fixing it until after a big Lakes trip at the end of next week (Mojo probably can’t service it quick enough)? And does anyone do a decent, reliable service that’s cheaper than Mojo’s £111? Ta v much.

don’t know if this is what you are experiencing, but from the TF tuned FAQ:

Why does my RP23 knock in the Platform Off position?

This is the ProPedal valve shuttling between the compression and rebound stroke and can’t be eliminated.

also TF service is a bit cheaper I think, about £100 with return postage

fake – cheers, you might have just saved me £111. I can live with the knocking if it’s not damaging the shock. Might ring TF for a bit more info. Ta v much.

Is it just a seal service you need to do? I highly recommend doing it yourself if so, it’s easier than forks as you can lay everything out on a desk/bench easily.

Rebuild kit here with everything you need £18

There are no specialist tools you need, although i’d get some IPA and lint free rags to clean everything.

I can do mine in less than 30mins including removing/refitting to the bike and it makes a huge difference to the shock performance. I do it every 6months or so to keep the shock sweet.

Aye, spoke to TF and it does need a service, tho it’s probably ok for my Lakes trip week after next. Will take a backup coil. Ta for your tips, folk.
