Hi sprained/twisted my knee whilst skiing ( although it has always been a bit dodgy) but never had problems on bike. I am thinking it may be a good idea to get a diagnosis and exercise/treatment plan from a good physio. I am assuming going to see gp would be a waste of time.
    Live near Stockport.

    Thanks for any recommendations

It is the wrong side of manchester for you but Bartek is great.

I used him for a dodgy shoulder following a crash last year.

But on the flipside I see no issue with going NHS. It ios free so worth a bash to get in the queue. You obviously can go to the GP but there is a good chaance you can get a personal referral by just phoning the physio department of your local hospital.

Personally I would (& did) do both – IE see Bartek to get you on track & then go NHS.

    Ali Mills up in Hebdon?

Bit further away, but as a cyclist/ runner etc, should be able to get you squared away?

Maybe Tim and Lynne at Global Therapies in Glossop, not used them personally but they have a good reputation locally and also hold weekly clinics in Stockport. Nice guys based on meeting them for a couple of hours in the pub with mutual friends:

I would also recommend Tim Deykin at Sportmed Physio in the centre of Stockport.

Cheers all, will give a few a ring and post outcome 🙂

Hebdon is deffo too far !

Salford uni looks like a good shout.

last time I fractured my elbow (black ice on road bike !!), on getting discharged from treatment I asked the Doctor for some physio as I could not straighten my arm (he told me to just stand closer if I needed to pick something up !!!) did manage to see the physio at the hospital but they had no interest in treating me, just offered a bit of advice. This was Tameside hospital about 4 years ago

I use Amanda who runs BodyZone in Cheadle Hulme. She also operates from the Galleon Leisure Centre in Parrs Wood. She charges £35 for 90 mins and is very good. Used to dealing with rugby players from Stockport Rugby Club! She’s fixed me a few times and i’d recommend her to anyone!

I could have put “a good sports physio” but I should imagine that the majority of folk will recognise that I was after someone who deals mainly with sports injures rather than 80 year olds being released from hospital after falling over !! 🙂

After reading recommendations for Physiotherapists I went to see Tim Deykin at SportMed.I had an Achilles op on both feet in July,I should have got the all clear from the consultant last month so I was making slow progress with a weak left leg.
He did a consultation which is fine but extremely rushed as he has the next patient waiting straight away, not even allowing a few minuates in between, and I was going of the recommendations and wanting to get my feet back to normal.A few days later I got very bad knee pain in my left leg,the consultant did confirm this.I went to see Tim Deykin again as it was horrendous, while I was waiting I could see he was looking for my file but could not find it so he decided at that point he was going to do another consultation. As I was already there I went ahead. He checked my knee, refusing to acknowledge the fact my gait was stiff on my left leg and diagnosed a Meniscus. He recommended a private surgeon and said I needed a operation! I was not happy with his diagnosis and went to see another Pysio the next day whereby he made me walk checked everything and said I had illobotal band syndrome, gave me a strengthening programme and the knee pain was gone in 2 day! Tim Deykin mailed me to ask me why I cancelled my appointment with him, when I told him he had misdiagnosed me he sent me a vindictive character attacking email and also was adamant that he is positive I had a meniscus.I am amazed how anybody can recommend this man,in my experience he is the most obnoxious physiotherapist and misdiagnoses people which make him dangerous.Feel free to mail me if you would like to see his emails to me.

@yazz Physios shouldn’t be giving diagnosis, that should come from a specialist doctor or surgeon

Thank you for your response but when you are in such horrendous pain and you go in alone to see a professional you are in thier hands, and I just wanted the pain to go away. When Tim Deykin said I had meniscus I was so tearful as I could not excersise to get my Achilles stronger.
I have since found an amazing Physio
