If I bought one of the cheap 200’s from Aldi this weekend, will it work with my Chromebook?

i.e. is the Garmin (connect?) software unavoidable, or will it work directly from a web-based/cloud tool?

    Ta.

Think you just plug it in via USB, and transfer files like it’s a USB stick?

Hope that’s the case – was abotu to get an edge, and have a Chromebook

But I hacked my chromebook to run Linux too, so can transfer via gpsbabel too (messy if you don’t know what you’re doing)

Hmm, I don’t know the answer for that. Does the edge 200 have Bluetooth? If so you don’t need to use a computer except for updates (and it’s probably safer to avoid them altogether as well). There is a web interface but it relies on you having installed garmin express.

I suspect you can just grab the GPX files from the device memory though.

Yeah it works fine. You just plug it in via USB and then select to do a manual upload on the Garmin website. I’ve been doing it this way on Linux and on my Chromebook.

Does the manual method work both ways? If I wanted to put a GPX file on there to follow on it’s simple navigation function?

Presume so if andytherocketeer is correct.

Triffic. Trip to Aldi for me at the weekend then. Much appreciated.
