As you see from the pics the digger work on the blue trail has begun.
This is the first section of the project and will be a full surfaced blues level climb to remove the muddy crappy climb that is there at the moment.
Section 2 of the project will see some blue new single track on top of the hill.
Section 3 of the project will see a 100% new flowy fun blue decent. Packed full of berm.
On that note we have a dig weekend this weekend Sat 30th & Sun 1st. We are going to be surfacing the bits the digger have cleared.
We need as much help as we can to get this part of the blue trail done by next summer. If you can make it we are meeting out side the main centre at 10.00, free parking for all that come to help.
Scott
P.S please don’t ride any of the new trail till it is finish, Thanks guys.
I reckon that it may be best to block the entrance/exits to that somehow or it’s going to get ridden or walked loads.
Having followed the route on foot with the dog last week it looks like it will be a really nice climb.
The dig this weekend, could I bring a well behaved dog? He’s good at moving sticks! Could do the Sunday then…
On reflection that was a very productive weekend. The digger should be there till Thurs/Fri finishing off the Blue climb, I will see if I can get anymore pics 😀
Not sure really. We have ~900 meters to trail to surface with ~200 tonnes of type one before it can open. Then we need to build the link from that to the old ‘purple’ single track by Juniper, some of which will be temporary, whilst we raise funds/plan to build the new descent to cut out the crap fire road down back to the SDW.
It’s a big project so you can appreciate it will take some time. My hope is to have it open by Spring but don’t hold me to that!
I’m clearly more optimistic than Scott. I agree about phase 3 though, we want to get it right rather than rush it.
we won’t have the funds for phase 3 till at least Sept 2014 unless anyone knows any active or bike brands that want to get involved in sponsoring a Blue decent. If you do point them our way please. It has the potential to be epic!!
Excellent and is that the climb UP from there to the right? Didn’t there used to be an unofficial path that came out round there?
Or do you come down there and turn right to back into the park?
Is there a map so I can work out where its running?
Thanks Scott, I’ve got a decent idea now. Please tell me the wiggly bit is down not up?!
Must get back over there, haven’t been for a year or so. Its a pain living on the Island sometimes.
Will we now see a flurry of attempts at the “QE Beginners Trail – Killer Climb” segment before it gets replaced? Looks like I’m 3rd of 14 for the QE Collective – which just goes to show that most of them haven’t had a go at it yet.
