Any of you fitted a Lift Kit – if so, is it an easy job?

Lift kits are pretty easy. Mostly utterly pointless and detrimental to handling and usability of the pick-up, but mostly very silly.
Are they even road legal in the UK?

I’m only thinking a couple of inches, not monster truck style – the ground clearance on my Navara is pretty poor

All depends on how and why you want to do it. You can lift the body on its mounts fairly simply, which just gives a slightly higher stance, improves approach and departure angles and only affects handling in that the CoG is about an inch higher, or you can go down the new springs/shocks route. This has the potential (but not the reality, necessarily) of adversely affecting on road handling, because as always, everything is a compromise. All depends on spring rates. Some people report better body control with their lifts, due to stronger HD springs. Ride comfort may then suffer though. And yes, of course it’s legal in the UK, so long as declared on insurance, etc. we aren’t that much of a nanny state just yet…

Remember, the only real lift that gives you clearance is big tires.

Hence i roll on 235/85r16s that gives me 1ft clearance between the diff and the floor and 3foot to the sill

Do not use hd springs unless you regularalt carry big loads. Makes your car a horror to drive. I lifted an old truck by fitting hd springs. Gave me 2 inch lift and broke my spine on every pot hole.

Not something I’ve done with mine but there are a few guys on http://www.nissan-navara.net who have done it.

I’d take polite issue with that. Aside from portal axles (which are probably a bit specialist) clearance isn’t just about the lowest point on your vehicle. There’s the far more important approach, departure and most importantly break over angles, all of which are improved by raising the body further away from the axles. Also by raising the body, you give more room in the wheel arches for greater articulation, should your setup allow for it. Lastly, you move your expensive and delicate panel work away from the rocks, which is never a bad thing off road. Obviously there are always swings and roundabouts; you lose out on cross slope performance (something to be avoided in any case) and you put your panel work closer to overhanging branches and the like.

Finally, the Navara is an IFS truck, so the front diff at least would actually be two inches further out of the way with a 2″ suspension lift.

Wholeheartedly agree about the HD springs though! 😆

I guess just about anything would improve the approach and departure of a stock navara…… Its not exactly startling…..possibly on par with my van 🙂 29degrees. Erk. I can see why he wants to lift it…..

Its not something ive had to consider …. For me its all about the pumpkins hanging down, the rest can almost all be sorted by driving technique, most of where i drive is ruts where knobs with big tires spin big grooves than you diff out on 🙁
