It’s time to re oil, do the surfaces need rubbing down or just whack new oil on old?

If there’s any roughness, rub it down, if not just re-oil.

    Not this ^^^^^

1.Fine wire wool in same direction,
2.wipe with damp cloth, leave to dry
    3. Apply quality danish oil in same direction
4.leave for 10 mins and wipe excess off with kitchen roll in same direction
    5.let dry/soak in over night 6-8 hrs
    6. repeat steps 3&4
    7. Look at how bloody nice it looks…

I’m a furniture maker, I de-nib with a kitchen scourer, as in the green plastic types, New obviously, then re-oil. It works great. Wire wool basically falls apart as you rub, leaving itself in the grain. Kitchen scourer doesn’t.

Wire wool works of course, but I do find it gradually disintegrates leaving metal dust in your grain which can make it look grubby or if it’s oak, react with the tannin and stain potentially.
I’ve found a scourer does a similar job to fine wire wool but without any grubbiness or staining.
