  • Not a new topic, but how best to sell an iconic (old) bike?

I promise this is not a disguised for sale thread, so I’m not even going to mention which bike it is, but suffice to say it was a pretty iconic bike back in the day, one of the first popular FS frames.

Do I build it up as a bike using appropriate parts or sell it as a frame?
Do I hedge my bets on eBay with no reserve, obviously the way to go if there is sufficient interest, but is there?
eBay with a reserve so I don’t cry into my beer, but could end up paying lots of fees?
Do I endlessly advertise it on here/retrobike for free & wait for the right customer?

I’m tempted by the first option, but on the wrong day it may sell for a quid & I would be gutted.

I’m thinking there may be some sort of retro specialist out there that would take it on a sale or return basis but I haven’t come up with anything, doe’s such a shop/specialist exist?

    Any thoughts welcome.

    Cheers.

Just stick it on eBay for 99p and see what happens. People just don’t bother that much when they spot a ‘reserve’ price, especially as some are just mentally high because they think they’ve got a ‘classic’.

Normally I’d always say frame only, and I’d probably stick with this for a retro bike – it could cost you a pretty penny to deck it out in authentic period garb.

Thanks again, the frame is in top nick but I could furnish with the appropriate garb as I have lots of valuable old shit available on other bikes which I could rob to make an authentic bike of the time.

    Cheers.

How about the old Muddy Fox Interactive that I had?

Not that it’s American in anyway, or indeed my picture, I wish I had kept it though 😳
