[#6953639]

Just put some 150mm Revelations on the front of my trance to try and raise the front up a bit and also hopefully they will be a bit better than the fox ctd forks I took off.......

Before ...

After....

And yes before anyone mentions the spacers under the stem, it's to high at the moment despite being uber comfortable but I'm just playing around with stem height before the final steerer tube cut.

I might get some custom decals made up to match the frame.

Cheers

Steve

Ha it does look quite slack at the front. The new trance sx which is the same frame as this comes with 160mm forks which would be even slacker.

I'm sure there are a few people on here running 160mm pikes on their trances to.

Looks much better with the all black forks.
If the set up is uber comfortable then leave it as is. You said you struggled with getting it set up comfortably. Who cares what it looks like.

When I say comfortable I mean a quick spin to the end of the road and back.

I need to get off road to see how it is. The axle to crown difference between these a d the fox is about 14mm so that's quite a bit already.

Will play around for a few weeks to see.

I am mate yes.

Need to save some funds for a commuter hack.

Got my shock back as well. It feels well weird so far.

The ongoing saga of Renton's Trance. 😆

it's to high at the moment despite being uber comfortable

If its comfortable why change it? I think 'slammed' stems make more sense on 29ers anyway where the reach is shortened by the high front end.

Surely a commuter hack could be sourced for £50 from local ads or even Bike Revolution? Would save that bike getting sand/grit and general wear & tear..

I may have a look at Bike Revoloution but need some funds first.

Ride in to work tonight proved the bars are too high so they will be getting dropped a spacer to start with.

I've git 150 Pikes on my Trance and they're great and, to me, represent a fair compromise between the 160s of the SX and the 140s of "normal" Trances. All black is good, too.

jmatlock what do you mean??

Dom as much as I wanted them I couldnt afford the pikes so felt the Revelations wpould be a better compromise.

I'd get a nose bleed from the altitude trying to see over that stem

It looks like you are forcing a bike to fit you.

Why didn't you go for a size bigger.

Jmatlock. Don't be cruel; he's made his choice and he's just trying to make the best of it, with a claw for a hand.

It looks like you are forcing a bike to fit you.

i thought that from the start of the other thread.
buy a bike that fits you, not because it is cheap.
i bought my enduro, only thing i have changed is the fork air pressure.

Someone will get a bargain when he ultimately sells it for a bike that fits. That's a pigs ear of a fit.

How is it a pigs ear of a fit. Are you some sort of bike fitting guru??

I've already said the stem is getting lowered as i've found it to high already.

Most of the reviews I've seen say the trance has a low headtube and the test bikes have quite a few spacer under the stem.

It's fits fine. Or will do when I drop the stem.

Would I need to be guru to have bought a bike in the right size?

It's it a mystical power ?

The 18ft of seat post / 6ft of steerer tube.

The constant 'oooh, validate me, please guys, it's ok guys, guys, it fits guys, I love my tiny new bike'
That is a lot of seat post.Really? I've seen a lot longer on here. I guess it's no longer fashionable.

OP - you've had it a month now. Get that bluddy steerer chopped 😆

Renton, this seems about right on mine, albeit for a 5'10" skinny bloke on a medium. I reckon you'll find the sweet spot by lowering the stem around 50%. Just don't cut until you have!

Scotroutes I've had the forks a day.

The seat post isn't that long, certainly not long enough to be able to run a 150mm dropper post like some folk on here !

Thanks for all the positive comments though.

Yeah that seatpost isn't particularly long at all. Some utter nonsense being spouted on here.

Renton, hopefully you're ignoring the fit/aesthetics comments on here and going with what feels correct. The only proviso being you focus on how it feels on trails, and accept it will not be perfect on your commute. You will not get it 100% on both.

Have you experimented with rotating the bars? I felt mine were a little low until I did this, thereby effectively raising my hand position without having to alter stack height.

The new forks look nicer imo. The black stanchions make them look less 'gangly' if that makes sense? Makes the bike look more in proportion.
At the end of the day though, if you like the way it rides it doesn't matter what it looks like. You can't see that much of it when you're on it...

Might be something to do with the long discussion on the topic in a thread you started called "Is my bike to (sic) small?"

Stating the bloody obvious but that's an all-mountain freerider enduro MTB you have right there and you are trying to make it a comfortable commuter.

Please stop doing this!

p.s. looks good with the black forks but you need to take it to a mountain (not the bloody shops)

So the stem is making its move downward.....

I've also rotated the bars forward a smidge and it seems to have opened up the cockpit length a bit which is good.

Cheers

Steve

Moving the stem down will increase your reach also. I'd have thought that the stem being that high, with a rise, with an extra 10mm on the fork than stock, plus the rider bar, would make the front end grip become quite poor.

How does it feel on flat corners?

thats not slack! no way...i should know...i love slack bikes!
it does look spot on though with those forks...but without knowing how tall you are i'd suggest dropping the stem a bit lower
