Faith No More doing “Easy” unexpectedly (before they released it as a single) at a concert was pretty random. The mosh pit didn’t know what to do.

Tori Amos also did Hendrix’ If 6 Was 9, using a piano miked up through a big amp and driven to major distortion, and Billy Holliday’s Strange Fruit, and a pretty creepy version it is too.
Oh, and she covered Chas ‘n’ Dave as well, but I can’t remember which track at the mo’.

there’s a Lady GaGa song been done by The Melvins (or some such) – in the same kind of style as Alien Ant Farm’s “Smooth Criminal”. Shame I can’t remember which one it is…

that’s alright, that is. Different to the original, which is one of two ways to do a cover version.

The other way is to do it note/beat perfect, and I don’t see the point of that. may as well turn up to karaoke night / watch X-factor (same thing really). Except for Walk On By (above), which is sublime

Is it a proper cover version if you include your own words. And owls.

Comedy covers aside – I still love this version of Superstar by Sonic Youth.
Thanks to Bob Mills for introducing me to it!

Most of the 60’s great rock tracks by Zeppelin/Stones/etc were blues covers!

Many years ago, I recollect a group potentially called Leather Nun doing a cover of Abba’s Gimme, Gimme, Gimme….it was great….
