8:15 blast off
Bring money for beer
Also, bring a rear light as there are a couple of miles on the road. We’ll be going up The Rake. If you haven’t heard of The Rake there is absolutely no need to worry your pretty little head about it. Honest.

Irwell Works Brewery,
Irwell Street,
Ramsbottom,
Lancashire
BL0 9EG

Weather forecast doesn’t look too bad, but if Snowmageddon™ happens then we may have to take a view on how sensible the situation is.

I may be riding in the day as well, so not sure about this. However, more training is never a bad thing 🙂

If I can come I'll be needing a lift from Great Britain*, however 😉

*Alright, which STWer works for Google, eh?

Is the brewery open on Mondays now then?

Is this rake thing singlespeed compatible? Not sure I can be arsed spending all day Saturday putting the gears back on my bike.

I'm pretty sure that the brewery is open on a Monday now, despite what it says on their website. I'll double check. As I'm being forced to work from home today due to Snowmageddon, I'm prepared to call in and check for you this afternoon. I know... I know... its very selfless of me 😀

If its not, we'll start from the Rose and Crown.

I also seem to be getting increasingly carried away with these graphics as well. This one appears to have got completely out of hand and ended up as a proper cubist stylee illustration. Must get back to just dicking about

Daz - technically the Rake is singlespeedable. You may die though. At least once you're up it, it can't get any worse

I've seen people on single speeds going up the rake a few times.

Although they were taking part in the national hill climb championships.

I only ever use one gear when going up the rake myself 🙂

On previous rides I've been beaten up the Rake by people on singlespeeds 😳

Brewery opens in half an hour. Just sayin' 😀

I believe I am in. If anyone wants a lift from the Hebden/Tod end give me a shout.

I'll probably be on a SS to suffer. I can't be bothered fixing the Spearfish.

Careful going out in all that snow binners.

It'd be awful if you got stuck down there for the afternoon

I should be ok for Monday. Bike is currently having a headset / bottom bracket service but should (all being well) be back by then.

So what's the pace really like, i know you lot say slow but right now i can barely get along the flat never minds hills. Took me a few rest stops the other day to get up Rivington.
Im doing my best at the minute to get out a couple of times a week but its not easy to motivate myself with this weather.

Check out a Strava from an old thread. Compute the average speed yourself, as, IIRC, the Strava-ists tend to whizz ahead a bit and then wait for the back-markers.

I'm moving up to Heptonstall on the 20th Feb half way down some descent called the blue pig, anyone heard of it? 😉

Can you make sure that you've shoveled all the snow of the trails by then, I'm from the south, we don't do snow, thanks awfully.

We've done the other routes. Keep the rake I reckon. It'll be fun 😯

Is there anyone who hasn't or isn't moving to Calderdale? A Tod/Hebden ride might have to be on the cards soon.

Incidentally, I'll have a mountain bike friendly house for rent in a couple of months in Todmorden. 🙂

I'll try to make Monday. I'm having to ride at a very sociable pace at the moment due to slightly squirrelly knee injury...

Note new correct postcode:

Righty ho! The brewery isn't open on a Monday. Every other night but. So let's start from the Rose & Crown, Carr Street BL0 9EG. I'll have a word with Julie, if I can get an idea of numbers, and see if she can rustle us up some chip butty's to warm us back up on our return.

Chipps - don't worry. I'm prepared to limp along at the back with you. Solidarity brother!

Just on the off chance that its too cold or wet (or work intervenes) and Susan cant make it at the last minute, I will happily help out at the back...

Rake is do-able on a singlespeed, obviously depending on how hard you are and what gear you're a-rockin.

Also, the rake is SHIT on a singlespeed but at least it'll all be over in a jiffy. Like pulling a toenail off.

Agree with Terrahawk - not pleasant but a short, quick way of getting up a big hill...

Looks like I'll have to find that 22 cog that I bought recently. I hope there are no flat pedally bits.

Right chaps.... Who's in? In a weekend of selfless sacrifice on your behalf, I went to the Rose & Crown to have a chat with Julie, the landlady, over a few ales. She's going to put some food on for us when we get back. So I could do with letting her know a rough idea of numbers.

Suns out too, the snows melting, so I'm going out for a reccie, and see what conditions are like up on the tops. Bucky Woods is actually surprisingly rideable in the snow. And I know how much Harry loves it!

I'm sorry I can't confirm as I'm Ill, and, also have another closer ride booked for Monday [which may or may not happen depending on quantity of snot still being generated at that point].

You'll have to regard it as a "Bonus" if I make it.

I'm at 90%. Eldest has chicken pox but seems to be mild so should be ok.
