As it says, burned a non-stick frying pan: it’s now covered in black tar. Is it cleanable, and how, or is it fubarred?

If it’s stainless steel, then it can always be rubbed clean with emery cloth.

Wire brush fitting in a drill has saved one or two or mine.

is it food stuck or have you melted the coating into a heap – if the latter id bin.

we only use stainless pans for this reason (and bloody cheap ones at that – never gives us gyp)

Bio washing powder and hot water. The enzymes will do the job.

Lots of bicarb and warm water. Ignore over night. Scrub briefly. Repeat.

Also means your pan won’t taste of your laundry too 🙂

    Thanks all.

I remember once seeing a cook on a ship borrowing a gas axe to clean his pans. A bit chancy with ally, I thought, but he got away with it.

Will do the overnight with whatever is handy.

Fairy Platinum, works wonders. I boiled a veg pan dry last night boiling potatoes and steaming veg at the same time. Soaked for 40 mins, scrubbed it, soaked again for 10 mins and was clean
