  • KINESIS 4S Disc frameset used with standard 105 rim brakes?

Can this be done? I’d like to change my frame for something that will take larger tyres and eventually disc brakes too but in the meantime could I use my standard 105 rim brakes? The kinesis website says it can be fitted with long drop brakes but I’m not sure exactly what this means, are there different versions of 105 brakes? Are long drops specific to certain forks to allow room for mudguards?

    Cheers

Yeah, long drop brakes basically have longer arms (i.e. the pads are further away from the pivots).

Shimano do two types of long drop brake, I can’t remember if there is a 105 model but there is an Ultegra model (BR-650 I *think*). Not too pricey on CRC etc.

Should have also asked if there are any alternatives to the 4S disc that I should be considering. I wouldn’t want anything more expensive than that though.

You can run the 4S disc with long drop brakes as suggested.
