Important point is that JOGLE is the "wrong" way round as it doesn't fit in with the prevailing winds across the UK.

I did it that way cos it looked downhill 😉 solo on a slicked up MTB with rucksack. Mind you, I was young, keen, fit and had a sense of purpose (i.e., I was bet a tenner to do it).

    prevailing wind issue is significant.

also the riding is better in scotland – finish on the better riding IMO.

however getting back from JOG can be a logistical challenge, more difficult when dealing with tired legs.

overall i'd do (did) LEJOG rather than JOGLE

I was planning doing it next month, but after looking at the traffic on roads in South Britain (was down for the SSEC) I'm going to change my plans.

Maybe Scotland corner to corner (N.E.W.S.)

I did JOGLE, and the prevailing winds thing is crap.
Wind behind us for 10 of the 14 days, anywhere north of Aberdeen seems to go in circles.
Blog here. with all B&B info etc.

I really wouldn't want to end up in JOG. I fancy doing it again and i'd do it the same way again.

    Taxi to Wick.
Flybe to Edinburgh, then onto Exeter.
    Taxi to Land's end.
    What could go wrong?

I'd agree spokebloke. I met quite a few coming the other way who all said they felt they'd been riding into substantial headwinds. On the other hand, starting in the North does give you quite long days to kick off with.

anecdotal evidence notwithstanding, the statistical average met is for a tailwind component when going LEJOG. i'm not saying you didn't have a tailwind the other way.

going south to north you may well get a headwind – however, you're more likely to benefit.

as far as ending up in JOG goes, true not that inspiring, but there's an ok hostel, or thurso and wick not that far away (ok, 20 miles, admittedly)

at LE there's nothing that stays open into the evening, and its a fair way to even the first pub, let alone st just or penzance

Why do all the record rides go south to north if the wind from the prevailing south westerly is not a factor then ?
