[#6677469]

I'm not going to make you pick one, I know I can't.

My picks would be:

Gameface - Now Is What Matters Now. Pop punk originators return after nearly two decade, triumph ensues.

Todd Terje - It's album time. Bonkers, album title of the year.

That list could have been twice as long, it's been a good year.

Songs of the year

Prince - Pletzelbodylogic
Future Islands - Seasons (Waiting on You)
Lykke Li - No Rest For The Wicked
La Roux - Uptight Downtown

... and many many more.

What you got?

QOTSA Sitting by the Ocean.

Mention must go to the Stereophonics for Grafitti on a Train, apart from the first album the 'ophinics leave me cold so was quite surprised by this.

Close to the Glass is a bit patchy but it's a new album by The Notwist so I'm happy for that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sonic Highways by the Foo Fighters. Incredible album.

But I guess I'm completely wrong about that since they're far too mainstream / dad rock / popular for STW.

Royal Blood came very close to getting in on my list, I know I'll get Sonic Highways for Xmas so haven't heard it yet but enjoyed all of the songs on the documentary series so far.

Congregation on Sonic Highways... A bloody great song. I think Royal Blood are supporting them on their UK tour next year so I suppose I'd better have a listen to them at some point.

This is drifting slightly off topic but I have to say I have really enjoyed the Sonic Highways docs and have actively sought the middle set out on Iplayer. Yes, it does stray into being a teeny bit pretentious in places but, on the whole, God bless Dave Grohl for making it!

buck53 - was not expecting to see someone pick RTJ in this thread!

I was expecting the usual navel gazing, bearded indie guff that the Audi drivers like ๐Ÿ™‚

Saw their set at Leeds Festival, supremely mental! Hadn't heard of them before.

Pigface - Member

QOTSA Sitting by the Ocean.

I was massively underwhelmed by Syro.

Lamb's new album was pretty good, that's about the highlight of my year. Hopefully 2015 will be a better year musically.

Most played album for me this year has been Held in Splendor by Quilt.

Agree on some of the posts above, particularly Alt J, Royal Blood and The War on Drugs.

I love these threads, gives me loads more music to listen to.

Mine would be:

Caribou - Our Love - all songs except Second Chance which does my head in

Spoon - They Want My Soul - every song is really good....very accessible album

The Phantom Band - Strange Friend - takes a few listens but I found it really rewarding after a few initial WTF moments

Parquet Courts - Bodies - quirky and awesome

Shellac - Dude Incredible - for producing another album that makes me want to take a shower after listening to it

Fugazi - First demo - its only just out but I have been listening to it non-stop for the last week.....for me an insight into an amazing band

I am still listening to various hip-hop albums recommended to me by the kind residents of STW. So far my favourite released this year would be JJ Dooms remix album Bookhead.

To be fair there are a couple of really crap tracks on it but I like most of them. It's also one of the only new albums I've listened to this year so my pool of choice is shallow ๐Ÿ˜›

Syro starts well but after track four takes a nose dive.

OOBE - Digitalisea

Teebs - Estara

Bear in Heaven - Time Is Over One Day Old

Hmmm. At the moment it's between the following:

- Solstafir - Otta
- Behemoth - The Satanist
- Anaal Nathrakh - Desideratum
- Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen

I am veering towards the Solstafir at the moment:

Yeah, agree on the Thom Yorke album, its a beauty. Came along pretty recently, so,haven't listen as much as my other 4.
Same goes for the Hookworms one.
And Goat - Commune
Jungle - Jungle is a gorgeous dance album!
Bet I'll think of more, I think it was a great year.

No-one gone for the NME's choice? St.Vincent? Doesn't do it for me, if I'm doing songs they need to be good songs and hers just aren't.

Another fan of Royal Blood, although their album sounds more like a collection of songs rather than an 'album'

Worth checking out Breton - War Room Stories

Earth, Mark Lanegan Band and War on Drugs for guitarry stuff.

Machinedrum for beepy stuff and the shear fact it made me very happy even when sitting in a traffic jam. Bass, good bass.
