While I consider contenders for my favourite albums, I'll throw this one in to the ring as arguably my favourite song of the year.

Run The Jewels 2 is the standout for me. Lie Cheat Steal being my personal favourite.
I'd throw a mention in for Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's Pinata, and RATKING's So It Goes.

Live... tiny venue.. singer headbutting a lad for talking while they were playing. Singing this at the lad's girldfriend who was stood next to me... "Is it too much fer ya blondie?!" Totally intense. Loved it.
No-one gone for the NME's choice? St.Vincent? Doesn't do it for me, if I'm doing songs they need to be good songs and hers just aren't.
I was quite disappointed with her album. I bought it on the back of hearing digital witness and prince Johnny, but they are the stand out tracks.
I bought Stay Gold by First Aid Kit in October which seems to be the most played when I'm in the car at the moment.
I like the new Alt J album, but not as much as the first. Lykke Li's No Rest for the Wicked is good and Rave Tapes by Mogwai is excellent too.
Argh, there's lots above that I [i]really[/i] should have listened to by now.
Here are my favourites, several swayed from like to love by seeing the bands live.
Aphex Twin - Syro
I'm on the 'love it' side of the divided opinions. Sounds incredibly fresh to my ears.
Amazing Snakeheads - Amphetamine Ballads
Good album, great songs... but live? Oh my. Even standing at the back of the venue by the bar this band drip malevolence and swagger in equal measure. Superb.
Honeyblood - Honeyblood
Saw these guys support Sleigh Bells a couple of years ago and was quite taken with their catchy tunes and lo-fi stylings. The album has a little more pop polish than their demo versions, but I've grown to like the refined sound.
Mogwai - Rave Tapes
This one is my album of the year, until I catch up with all the ones I should have listened to and change my mind again.
oh, the Burning Hell too.
First track from what is hands down the best album of 2014
Lykke Li's is awesumz too.
And any of the Neil Young ones.

First time I've heard FKA Twigs outside of a Flying Lotus tune, took me a minute to tune into the lyrics 😀

Am really liking The Amazing Snakeheads and The Acid.....good recommendations as first time I have checked out either of them.

Don't really get FKA Twig....just sounds to me like bad R&B over one of Rustie's off cuts. But I am not a huge fan of R&B so that probably explains why I am missing out.
I forgot Mogwai released that this year, it definitely should have been on my list.

St. Vincent - St. Vincent. Took a while to get into, she's amazing.
Debaser, The Phantom Band are playing in Aberdeen again next week, can't wait 🙂

It's made me realise that I've not bought much music this year.
On a different note, Slipknot the Gray Chapter gets my vote for dud of the year.

Completely forgot about HTRK - Psychic 9-5 Club, probably my favourite release of the year.
For me it was the long-awaited 'The Unravelling' from Knifeworld. Pop/prog/psych/folk spectacular. Especially loving the snaking mariner's lament that is obviously a living tribute to stablemate/Cardiac's Tim Smith - 'Send Him Seaworthy'. Puts a lump in the throat and is IMO fittingly brilliant and cleverly all over the shop at once. Spooktacular break and riffage at 4 min 40 secs makes me smile inside just like Zappa's 'Willie The Pimp' always does 🙂
Hookworms 'The Hum' is my album of then year. Love it.
This being one of my favs from the album.
Some great stuff on these replies, will keep me happily insomniac via late nite Scotch and Tubeathons 🙂

The album of my year was The Temperance Movement's debut album. It was actually released in 2013 but I didn't discover them til early this year and have since seen them live 3 times. 😀

Just bought the Swans album, passed me by when it was released (bein an [i]old [/i]band an that), appears top of a few lists, so took a punt and its a BEAST.
As it is now the end of the year and without wanting to sound like a broken record, the album of the year for me was Bastille's latest offering with Remains being my favourite tune. Love Rag n Bone Man's deep vocals alongside Skunk Anansie's velvet-coated gravel of a voice...
I promise to make an effort to listen to more artists next year!
