Am booking a sleeper train return to Inverness for next May.

Looking at route suggestions for a 4 day tour. Was thinking of the Great Glen Way to Fort William over a couple of days but then wondering whether I should do it as a loop or do a linear route onto somewhere else and only book a single to Inverness and then back from somewhere else?

Open to suggestions really. 40-50 miles a day.

You could tag on the West Highland way to Tyndrum and get a train from there, the riding is open with expansive views taking in Glencoe and the wilds of the Rannoch moor.

I would look at going offroad to Ullapool then down to Torridon then back from there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like the sleeper train to Fort William isn’t very bike friendly due to the changing lines at Edinburgh. To get the train from the West Highlands to Inverness means going via Glasgow.

Inverness to Fort William to Aviemore could work with the trains. Any other suggestions?

From Fort Augustus you could head back east over the Corrieairrick pass – Laggan to Aviemore, fairly well ridden route.
