  • I feel like shedding a couple of grand.

I’m bored, I can’t remember the last time I treated myself to anything and I’ve got a couple of grand not doing much that I refuse to stick in the bank. So any ideas on what I should spend it on?

I’m open to all ideas and suggestions.

There’s nothing quite like simply pissing 2k away.

mmmm, wine buying on the Loire, or in Burgundy. That’d do me. £500 for travel and accommodation, £1,500 for the cellar.
Although I think Im about to spunk 2k on a 125cc scooter, helmet, git and CBT. But I dont think of it as treating myself really.

Or do as a mate of mine has done (“suthy” on here) and use it to buy paramotor and learn to fly it.

    Here’s his year:

You win. How could you not want to buy one of those?

Well he wins: I have neither the funds nor the time to join him, so just get to live it vicariously through YouTube and Facebook 🙁

It is an expensive hobby, no doubt. But you’ve officially introduced this into my life so if it all goes tits up, I’ve given my other half your contact details. 😉

I gather it’s not actually that expensive – once you get past the initial gear and training then you only really pay for fuel and the odd bit of maintenance.

If you’re seriously interested then email me (address in profile) and I’ll put you in touch with him.

Yeah, It’s about 4k for the paramotor itself then there is the rest of the kit and training. So, like you say, just the initial cost really.

No licence needed which is a bonus. I’ll be in touch.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but I think TJ has been on the sherry for the last couple of days.

    TJ has a point.

In Eastern Europe you could spend the weekend snorting coke out of the ass cracks of about 20 of ’em.

Think Suthy paid a fair but less than that and was able to complete the training very rapidly as he had done gliding and helicopter lessons in the past.

My friend Tim had a fatal accident with a paramotor .
Beware ! He was a very experienced pilot who had done over 100 flights .

I would look for a Mk2 escort as a little project if you have a garage / car port . broom broom.

I went to the Landrover factory at Solihull today for my Christmas present, i drove their test course in a 110 Defender, it only cost £75 for an hour and a half.

It was a total bargin i well recommend it to anyone.

They do all dayers too with a factory tour for a couple hundred.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Paramotoring in my limited experience (25 flights) is as safe as you want to make it. 100 flights is not experienced.

    Paramotoring

Costings are approximately as follows. The cheapest form of powered flight that you can chuck in your car!

    Motor – New £2500 – £7500 (Secondhand £1500 onwards)
    Wing – New £1500 – £3000
    Training – £1000
    Reserve chute £400
    Helmet – £100

Fuel – you can burn between 3 and 6 litres an hour.

Plus Radio / comms, flight suit, gloves, insurance (BHPA £90), GOPRO £250. This list is endless!

Safer than a motorbike. (I have no stats to back that up except that my wife wont let me have a motorbike)

If I had 2 grand to blow then I’d buy a sniper rifle to take out any paramotors who flew close enough for me to hear. 🙂
