Got any? We were thinking of touring Norway in our campervan, but then someone told me that the midges in summer are worse than Scotland.

Sitting on beaches and holiday complexes are not our thing.

Don’t go to Cyprus, we did, I’m amazed we’re still married.

Summer you say? Villa somewhere? I love Kefalonia, mountains, villages, sea it’s got a bit of everything. I’d have much rather gone back there.

Canada maybe? We did California and Vegas for our 1st anniversary and that was great too.

Drive Highway 101/1 from Portland to Laguna Beach. The diversion around the missing bits in Big Sur looks awesome. Takes 2 weeks to do it properly. The sights, scenery and people on the way are enthralling.

Go to Hawaii. Big island is gobsmackingly beautiful, hire a jeep. Marvel at how wet a tropical island can be. Oahu is less amazing – like LA compressed into the size of Sunderland, worth 2 days though. Maui looks fantastic.

We went to Corsica, it was amazing. Fantastic combination of scenery, food, weather, wine and places to see. I asked about it on here before we went and got loads of good advice. We’d go back in a heartbeat!

Off the top of my head:
West cost of the USA. San Diego, up the coast to San Francisco, finish with a few nights in Vegas. That’s what we did for our honeymoon and it was amazing. May not be ideal for you but it was an incredible trip.
Sri Lanka. 2 weeks, 10 days exploring and maybe have 3 days sat on a beach at the end. Did this over the summer and it was amazing.
Southern Europe road trip. Either drive, fly or get the train (the latter is expensive but amazing) to somewhere south, hire a car and then drive around the south of France/north of Italy at your leisure and plan your itinerary to see the things you like. We started in Grenoble, did the a few towns on the French coast, over the Italian border and then back into the Alps. It was amazing.

Hot fiat doing a shorter version of that – Oakland -> Portland for our honeymoon next July. Any dos/don’t/musts?

Sri Lanka

We did a Norway camping roadtrip. didn’t find the the midges that bad. certainly better than we had it in the Western Isles. If you want to go, I wouldn’t say it should put you off. Get a pair of collapsable, netted wide brimmed hats though. Just in case.

Or S. Utah national Parks inc. a day or more riding in Moab if that suits you both.

Southern Europe roadtrip in your camper sounds pretty good too. Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro…

How long can you take?

The boat house on Skye to relax and unwind after the event itself and then Sri Lanka when suitably refreshed and ready for an adventure.

What’s your budget/duration?

We flew to New Zealand via Hong Kong and back via a week in the Cook Islands and a couple of days in LA.

Took 4 weeks, but Mrs Dubs is a teacher so we could get the time off.

We went to Sorrento. Good mixture of relaxing and things to do and see. Loved it, love Italy. Would go back time and again, there’s so much to explore.

Due to circumstances way beyond our control, we went to Liverpool.

It was great.

I’ve spent a couple of summers camping in Norway I don’t remember particular midge problems, and I hate Scotland midges! Most of Norway is North of the Shetlands so can be pretty cold even in summer. Love it though.

The Northern Riviera?

We went to New Zealand for 3 weeks in Feb (2001). Auckland for a rest, then to a beautiful holiday house (friends parents place) in the north then to Christchurch and South Island campervan fun. Was without doubt brilliant. Only issue was being burnt to a crisp on the first afternoon and it wasn’t even sunny.

We had 3 weeks in British Columbia. Flew into Calgary, then Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, the Rocky Mountaineer train through to Vancouver, then the amazing Knight Inlet lodge.

Bloody amazing. Worth missing the 2002 World Cup for!

Why not Montreal, Canada? Stunning, exciting city, surrounded by spectacular country.

We had a week touring Sri Lanka followed by a week in the Maldives.

It was a great combination of a hectic week of hustle, bustle and culture followed by a week of chilling out drinking cocktails, swimming in the sea and eating too much.

Loved it!

Have been to Norway a few times in the summer and have never noticed midges.

If you’re going away straight after the wedding my advice would be to plan to do nothing but decompress for a few days. Whilst getting married is a great experience it’s totally knackering.

We flew to Nairobbery, bussed down to Tanzania and climbed Kilimanjaro. Then did a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, staying in fancy lodges, then flew to Zanzibar for a week of chilling on the beach and exploring the old town.

Also, west coast of the US is excellent – Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon makes for an awesome roadtrip.

We were in Norway last June, midges and other biting insects not a problem. It’s a great place for a campervan trip.

Canada this June was a totally different matter, I fed a lot of mosquitos!

One thing to remember; years ago a honeymoon used to be your first holiday together as you set off on life’s journey. These days it is more likely to be your last before have kids and holidays will never be the same again.

Another vote for west coast USA, just back from Seattle to San Diego roadtrip. Amazing.

If you’re not too fixed on going in northern hemisphere summer, I can recommend South Africa. No jet lag, food and wine were fantastic, and plenty of outdoors to explore / wildlife to see…

I had thought of that, but seeing as my ex wife is South African and we holidayed there it may not go down too well with my new wife!

Iceland. Great place. Very different. Always a talking point.

Japan. Will need two weeks, but as above.

Most of the previous suggestions are all standard fayre. We went to the Italian Rivera. Was lovely but hardly out of the ordinary. But plan on doing little for the first few days. Better still, spend those days in a hotel or spa in the UK for a few nights to decompress and relax. Then fly off somewhere different.

That’s what I’d do.

Golden gate Bridge, best views are from Kirby Cove (satnav will try and take you through richmond)
Marin county – you have to spend an hour at the bike museum in fairfax. Then take the Sir Francis Drake blvd over the Bolinas Ridge to Hwy1. The 101, at this point is way too busy, so stick to the low grade coast road.
Mendocino is proper small town America.
Skunk Train at Fort Bragg is pretty good, but can take all day to wend its way up to Willits & back again. The cafe in the mall/museum opposite is awesome. Proper american breakfasts with limitless coffee.
The drive-thru tree park at Leggett is worth 30 seconds of time. Try and get someone else to take a photo for you.
Head off the 1 just after redway & take the avenue of the giants. The trees are mind-blowingly large. The road re-joins the 1 just south of stafford.
We spent a few hours the beach at myers creek with the kids. Real solitude on a beautiful grey sand beach. We even saw baby sea turtles!
Holiday Inn express at klamath is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Owned by local native american tribes, they built it and the adjoining casino to make some cash. Cheap as a HIX, but to 4 star standards. Restaurant in the casino is great.
Trees of Mystery looks like a tourist trap, but is actually pretty cool. View from the telecabine is great.
TJs cafe at Port Orford is the real american diner deal (more pancakes please!)
Bandon is a great little fishing town. Beware that they know they’re on the tourist route & so 3 fish & chips, to TAKE AWAY was $50!
Oregon coast aquarium at newport is fantastic. Newport itself is quite bohemian. Many shops with dream catchers and incense.
Evergreen aviation museum is well worth a visit. They’ve an SR71, the spruce goose and a water park based around a 747!

Oregon is GST free. The outlets at Woodburn can be great value. Assuming we haven’t tanked our currency <D’oh!>

We did a West Coast USA tour too. We included a three day guided hike in the Grand Canyon which was hard work but amazing.
