I was unfortunate to be knocked off my bike by a car last night. Not been in this situation before so looking for some advice as to how to proceed. The driver was at fault hitting me from the exit on my left as I crossed a roundabout. I have his details and he admitted he was at fault and I also have a witness who saw the accident.
Ive been in touch with the police and they will be getting a statement from me tomorrow. I’m still very shaken up and it bloody hurt! have quite a few bruises and grazes but also pain in my back and neck, will be seeing my gp to get checked out. Bike is mess – carbon forks cracked, bars and stis damaged. Also need a valuation from lbs for cost of replacement/repair.
To claim for compensation is it usual to deal directly with the drivers insurance company? I guess the damage to the bike is easier to value but not sure how to claim for injuries and loss of work. I dont have a solicitor so would it be best to seek legal advice before contacting the insurers?

A second time?! Bad luck. There’s a good thread on lfgss.com IIRC, this comes up often enough. Get yourself checked by a doctor, and yes, valuation for damaged kit required.

Get incident ref number from police, include as much detail as they’ll allow. You’ll get an appointment to recant your full story in your own time later, but it’s good to be thorough when it’s fresh.
Take photos of injuries to both yourself and bike.
Ideally go to A&E now, don’t wait for GP.
Go to bike shop for damage report/valuation.
Legal advice always good, there are some cycle incident specialists.

Don’t hang about with medial issues, this is super important.

Is valuation necessary ? – yes, or at least will make things quicker I’d expect

Yes, see yr GP (or A&E if you need urgent care) and also wait at least a few days before accepting any settlelment offers to confirm that your aches & pains aren’t significant as you could need physio or whatever

(oh, and don’t recant your full story. Reciting is better)
