Ive managed to strip the threads on my frame where the Evo Link bolts on (trek fuel EX). Is there any chance of re-tapping the frame or is the frame doomed?

retap or a helicoil might well be possible.

How does a helicoil work? Heard of them but not seen one. Is it a DIY job ?

on a frame and if you’ve not done it before I’d get a pro to do the job.

    have a read/look here for details. http://www.veryuseful.com/GM/tech/heliCoilInstall/Fix-A-ThredHowItWorks2.jpg

I’d be minded to try a repair on a DIY basis. Then you can at least say you did try to repair it when seeking authorisation to buy that nuke proof when it goes teets up.

Have a local workshop re thread it. I stripped the threads in a crank and they put a new thread in it. They basically filled the whole with molten metal, once it had solidified they drilled it out and put a new thread in it. Cost me a few quid, most impressed.

@ rockhopper – Good idea, would be better though, if you tried to fix it and bodged it up, then I’ve got someone to blame…
