    Just fixed my neighbour’s bikes for him. Kids’ bike brakes weren’t working at all (5 seconds to wind in the static pad on the mechanical disks). Gears would shift all the way up the block happily, but wouldn’t come back down. Couldn’t figure it at all until I realised the shifter lever was bent and the upshift therefore wasn’t returning properly!

    His gears weren’t shifting properly at all at the back. Spent a good while adjusting it and it still didn’t seem quite right. Checked for lateral play in the suspension movement. Seemed like a lot. Had a check round the bearings and stuff. Frame broken, completely failed at one of the welds!

    This is in the Alps, bear in mind. I feel a little lighter of spirit that 2 people are now somewhat more likely to survive their next ride!

    I’m the street spanner man I’m always amazed how crap kids bikes are assembled and looked after by their own parents!
