So, I thought I’d have a go at servicing them. Never done before.
    Open bath, 150 RL
Had a few problems along the way, but at the last step, I can’t get the screw on the damper side to do it up.
The thread bit just spins. I’ve tried locking them out, doesn’t seem to work.
I just can’t figure it out.
It’s now dark, I’m cold and fed up.
    Help me please.

To elaborate, the nut goes on a couple of turns, then that’s it the whole thing spins.

Use new crush washers as they don’t catch on the threads & clean threads on stud and nut.

try and compress the fork a little whilst turning the foot nut, it’ll allow the damper or air spring shaft to bite on the lowers and you’ll be done

You’ll end up firing oil in your eye from out of the damper leg doing that if you’re not careful doing the above especially if open bath 😉

Hi Loco, they are new, from you in fact!
Should I push the washer into the nut?
    Cold fingers not helping.
Might bring into the kitchen , see how that goes down.

I’ve got a garage floor covered in oil already.
As are my fingers, all my tools.
The great thing is, the forks definitely didn’t need a service, although I have reduced the travel, which is nice.
Or it will be if I ever finish them.

Kitchens are made for fork services – fact

Beware the ‘fridge suck’ if you drop it, it’s under there 😉

I think I’ll go for the torch in the mouth system.
    See how that goes.

Beware of the garage pixies as well.Mines full of them.
Mine can fly and steal wee small bits before they hit the ground. 😆

Well, I must get a head torch, the torch in mouth system can get a bit salivery.
It did stop me saying the bad swears though.
So after doing up, undoing, doing up…
I managed to drop the crush washer down the steerer tube. What luck, at least I new where it was.
Ten minutes later I scraped it out with a gear outer.
So, a good squirt of lube on the thread, and careful tightening and it went on.
Flipped the forks over, all the crap I dislodged from the steerer tube dropped out and stuck to my oily stanchions.
Forks back on, brakes on, stem on and the forks do feel smoother than before.
I can’t tell if they have less travel, and the rebound knob doesn’t work. But all in all, a job well done.
I think posting to Loco next time may be the answer.

At least it landed in the steerer tube 😉

If it’s an open bath cartridge (rebound on top) put it on full slow and compress/extend a few times and the air should bleed out of the damper.

    Thanks.
I’m in the house trying to regain the use of my toes.
Hoping for a trip to FOD on Thursday.
