  • Fitting a shock without a torque wrench or loctite – will I die?

i.e. if I simply bolt the thing in reasonably tight and ride on…will that be alright?

Or do I need to do any proper fettling to prevent disaster…should I just engage a mechanic given the stresses these bolts are going to be subject to.

This is replacing an 2009 RP23 with a 2012 Vanilla RC on a 2009 Specialized Enduro (with 22mm bushings – hopefully the correct ones…)

    Thanks

Nip it up & ride it. Check now and again. Relax.

Not his fault…it’s the “I fit every bolt to the correct torque” brigade who should be culled.

Just don’t do it up until it feels like a bolt will snap. I’d imagine they’re 5mm allen bolts? Just enough is fine and as above check after a bit.

Unless you’re totally ham-fisted it’s a walk in the park

Dont have a torque wrench and I dont own any Loctite….still alive!

I do check my bike occasionally though out of nagging paranoia

OK. I’ll check my bike’s warranty policy too. Does anyone know offhand if doing this without a torque wrench/Specialized dealer will void my warranty? Bet it will.

Theres a pretty good torque wrench in your wrist, mines always worked fine….

Tighten it until it strips then back it off one.
