    Hi all,

Building my first bike, road mu mates pitch pro the others day and loved it so got the 2011 Comp in large to customise, going superstar for all sorts of bits and bobs to funk it up, but the meatier stuff and he question is below.

Gone with rockshox lyriks 36 160mm at the front end but lost as to what size, type etc for the back, spent a fortune so likely to go second hand, fox RP23 or something similar, in fact the 2012 models are on sale at chain reaction so may do that but still befuddled with sizing.

I want to stick to the 150mm travel (I believe that’s the limit for a pitch), monarchs, fox, etc… All tickle my fancy but don’t no where to start.

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers,
    John.

You will need to get the right size (length of shock and stroke) that is compatible with the frame, Specialized Tech info will tell you which one. You will also need something with the right tune for the bike to make it feel right. Is there no shock with the frame?

Try LOCO/TF/MOJO for specific advice/tuning and picking up the right one

You want a 200×57 rear shock.

    (Those numbers are millimetres btw)

Currently it has the stock RockShox Ario, air spring, rebound adj. and LO, 7.875×2.2″

What is LOCO/TF/MOJO? Never came across them?

If I buy the Fox Float RP2 2012, 200x58mm would that suffice? And give me the required travel?

The guys are suspension specialists, LOCO will pop up here in a bit normally.

The tune will be more important, as the shock will define how it behaves though the travel, the linkages of the specialized will behave differently to those on other bikes so the tune is generally different.

Try whats currently on it first and see how you go.

If you buy that new 200×58 shock from CRC, LoCo will tune it for you for just £30, so well worth doing. That price is only on new shocks though so you’ll need to send it straight off to him.

A medium comp and rebound tube will be fine for the pitch if you are in the average weight band.

I’ve got a medium compression/rebound tune Fox RP2 for sale if you’re interested. It’s 200×57 and was on a Nicolai Helius FR, so a ‘four bar’ Horst link suspension quite similar to yours.

    Hi mike,

Nothing wrong with it at all, I have my vision of the bike and I requires Fox action at the back end for me to be truly happy haha

As for average weight band, 15st may be a tad outside it!!

Mildred – got any photos? Will email you anyway.
