Can anyone recommend a film where the main character is evil and twisted, yet strangely likeable- preferably of a dark-comedy-horror genre?

I watched Filth last night which I enjoyed, also a fan of The Devil’s Rejects.

I love that character. I especially like the line (to the two slappers)

    ‘You – 8.30. You – 10 o’clock. (pauses) bring a friend’.

Alan Rickman in pretty much anything, really, has the same effect on her.

All bad guys are likeable in films. We create homage to real life bad guys and then immortalise them in films.

The question should be which bad guys aren’t likeable. (I’ll exclude horror films though)

I’d say the chap in American Psycho was a bit unlikeable.

The best one is Alec Baldwin in Miami Blues: main character is evil and twisted, yet strangely likeable is a perfect description.

But in the horror genre – Bill Paxton’s character in Near Dark.

Hmm.. it’s kind of the whole point of the movie, but John Cusack in Grosse Pointe Blank..?

Also from the Mrs, and again the whole point really – Despicable Me of course.

    Despicable Me of course.

He is meant to be nice eventually.
I’m talking about characters who are properly bad with no redeeming features- but for some unfathomable reason, you end up rooting for them…

J E Freeman as The Dane in ‘Miller’s Crossing’. Funny, charismatic and **** scary.

Charmless villains? Jeremy G. Smart, the landlord in Mike Leigh’s ‘Naked’. Thoroughly unpleasant to watch.
