Looking for a film to rent – go on what does the STW world have to recommend?

    Action/Comedy/Adventure etc..

    cheers folks!

EDIT: I guess im asking if you’ve seen a film recently that you thought “wow”…then recommend it..

Kick ass – not seen it but gets good reviews
Zomieland – bit older I can’t recommend this enough, Wood H @ his best.
The A-Team – original series fan, but did enjoy this.
IronMan 2 – not essentially a comedy but still decent ‘brain dead’ action

Last night I watched Precious. Definately not Action/Comedy/Adventure and firmly in the etc. category. Its one the the most powerful and moving films I have seen for a long time. Just be prepared to be in tears for a significant proportion of the film.

For action movies you’re really looking for blood, beasts, breasts and kung fu. I’ve yet to see the masterpiece that combines all four; I did see Predators recently and thought that was pretty good. No tits, but a decent return to form after the execrable AvP II film.

    Recently seen:

A-Team: wasn’t looking forward to it having been a fan of the TV series but I must admit I did enjoy it a lot.

Kickass: Was amusing in parts but I wouldn’t rush to watch it again

Resident Evil Afterlife: Entertaining watch in a “leave brains at the door” style

    Human Centipede: shite

    Last night I watched Precious.

Got this on DVD a few weeks back, enjoyed it immensely. Well worth a look.

The Mrs told me we were going to the pics recently. She told me upfront we were going to see a film about the tribes in the rainforest, subtitled, and made by Mel Gibson. I think it was called apocolyptica or something.
Well to be honest I wasnt pleased, sounded like everything I normally try to avoid on a night out but I have to say it was brilliant, I really enjoyed it.
Four lions was really good too.

Let the right one in – one of THE best films I’ve ever seen. Swedish vampire movies of which I hate both but loved this.
Daybreakers – another good vampire movie
    Vicky Cristina Barcelona – Comedy
    Juno – Great and funny
    The Hangover – Brilliantly funny.

EDIT: Hurt Locker and In Bruges also great films.

    The (original) Italian Job.
Blackhawk Down always brings a smile to my face.
    Alfie again the original.

i’d second Let The Right One in. was lent it the other month and completely blown away by, largely because of how unhollywood it was. It treats you like a grown up rather than spelling every detail out slowly. Wasted a tenner on Res Evil”3d” the other week, and seeing the trailer for the LTROI remake had me shouting obscenities at the screen.

Dead Snow’s a good fun zombie romp (virgin had it on-demand for cheapy lately). Laden with loving salutes to Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi. And it’s got zombie nazis – what more could you possibly want?

It seems that we have similar tastes in films…though we have actually seen alot of the suggestions (and they are great too) we tried to find the others but the dvd store here in the small village aint great..

I tried to get shawshank out as my wife hasnt seen it, but they didnt have it..toy story 3 was already rented and they didnt have many other things that grabbed our imagination.

So we did a photobook from our recent holiday in greece instead!

But thanks for the recommendations quand même..will be used in the future.
