We will be heading back north up the M6 and want to stop off for a spin. Looked at the howgills loop but that might be a bit much depending on how late we get away.

so not too far off the motorway - 3 hrs ish ride. Scenic preferred over super gnarr.

Heading north from where Uncle Jezzer?. Wasn't there a route guide in the mag a couple of months back about a loop from Westmorland services (near Shap)? That'd be a good option. I've done a route from there myself. Some good stuff.

And you can stock up with 'Growlers' at the farm shop on your return ๐Ÿ˜€

Or Plenty of West Pennine Moors options. You could do a quick detour onto the M61, couple of junctions and your at Rivi. Or detour off the M65, One junction and you're in Darwen. Plenty of good riding to be had from either.

EDIT: I'd be happy to show you round too TJ. When are we talking about?

Cannock Chase is about 10 mins from J12 or 13 off the M6. I'll probably be able to give you a guided tour, depending on when it is.

Just east of J36 you have the delight of Farleton Fell and Lupton High, etc. Detailed routes are available on Bogtrotters site, I believe.

How about a loop including either the road or off-road from J40 or 41 around Melmerby Fell. Melmerby - Ousby - Row - Muska Hill - Meg's cairn - Meathaw Hill - Hartside cafe - Haresceugh - Gamblesby - Melmersby. About 18miles.
I do other routes round there so if needed just ask.
Phil

I'd recommend Loweys suggestion TJ. Its a good run. I did it in Winter and it was a big boggy. I imagine it'd be great at the moment.

Give us a shout when you're down in Manchester. We could do a tour of Lord Loweys extensive country estate

Ta Chaps! I knew STW would not let me down. This is a great example of why it is great.

When I come down to Manchester for the weekend in a few weeks time I'll try to set up a riding day / beer evening ๐Ÿ™‚ Date to be decided. I'll give some notice.

Beattock.
Up the Squiggly Rd and follow the farm road/track past Kinnelhead. Cross over rickety bridge into forest. Follow forest road and pick up Southern Upland Way and return to Beattock

Moffat.
Follow Southern Upland Way to Pawhope Bothy. Take a left down Bodesbeck onto Selkirk Rd and return to Moffat

Or loweys routes = ace.
You could start loweys Orton route from Orton and finish at the chocolate factory/cafe, tis what I do.

One of the routes out of Tebay is called Bowderdale on the opposite side of the M6. I occasionally start from Tebay, do Bowderdale, Calf, along the narrow country road and then do the Borrowdale loop back to Tebay

Ta muchly chaps - Orton loop done today on our way back north - just the part of it east of the motorway - thats all we had time and legs for but a spot on route - exactly what we wanted. Cracking sunny day, great views and nice trail - nothing tricky but enough to keep us entertained. STW at its best.
