A 10 speed cassette with 10-36 or 10-40 sprocket spread?
I think Hope were developing one but I can’t find one for sale.

If you want 10-40t but can only get 11-42t, just run a slightly bigger chainring?

Diameter of a 10t cog is too small for a standard freehub, so you’re into new freehub territory, and at that point it’s probbly cheaper to go 1×11

No can do (any bigger will foul the chainstay)

Its an option but 9t brings the chain very close to the chainstay as it comes off the sprocket.

You’d almost get a GX 1×11 kit and freehub for the price of the E13 cassette

If you’ve got a dt swiss hub there’s a One up conversion that allows 10t. But I’ve thought it expensive and i’ve not been found wanting anything bigger than 34 x 11.

Yes that’s to much for a cassette.

What cranks and front ring are you running? On what frame?
Can you space your spindle outboard on the driveside to make room? How’s the current chainline?

I’m replacing worn out XT 3×9 (worked fine clearance wise) with XTR 2×10 trying to keep 44-11 top gear using M985 cranks, I’ve got one spacer on the drive side of the 73mm bb (On one carbon 456 frame) but the big ring touches the chainstay, if I can find a 10-40 cassette I can use a 40t chainring to get the same top gear.

I can’t fit more than the one spacer I’m already using.

Chainline appears fine (using the 40t chainring)

I’d just bang an extra spacer on the drive side

Could you not just pedal a bit faster?

People actually need 44×11 on mountain bikes? Wow.

Just a bit worried about trashing some expensive cranks.

whats the measurement from inner crank arm face to rim outer on both sides?
I literally throw spacer info out and try to get cranks equidistant from wheel center with the best chainline. You could easily be a 1/4 inch out already

Not sure how you can do this with HT2 on a 73mm bb – one spacer on the drive side already, anymore & I’m exceeding the recommended – even adding an extra spacer only gives me 2.5mm max & I’m not sure that’s enough to stop the contact while standing pedaling & also reducing the amount of spline interface for clamping the NDS crank arm risking trashing them.

44/11 – do you really need to be geared to do 38mph with reasonable cadence?
