  • Compact 500ml water bottles like the YT one?

Fitted a new shock on my frame and I know can’t get a normal 500ml water bottle in the cage.

The YT one will fit but it’s £42 for a bottle and cage and I don’t need the cage.

Any other alternatives that are a similar size?

Try decathlon, I got ones that fit into my scalpel there

Can’t you shape it to fit by heating one up…

This thread is relevant to my interests.. I have the Super Deluxe shock on my Aeris and the oil reservoir means even with a side-load cage I don’t think I can get a stock bottle in. Saw the YT one but ouch, £42 for a carbon cage and two bottles – plus it’s RHS load and I need left.

    I use one of these on my space restricted Hightower (with a side loading Specialised Zee cage);

I just bought a Specialized side loader one from Evans for my Strive. Can swap between left and right…. Holes for attaching it are quite low on the cage. Check it out.

    I have the zee cage

    Access is not the issue.

I have various 500ml bottles and it’s the length of the bottle that is key. Even with a side loading cage, I cannot get a standard 500ml bottle in

    Fabric careless Bottle?

The Fabric’s still quite a long bottle and you get less choice about exact location. I don’t have a better suggestion but I’m pretty sure that one won’t work.

Those Fabric cageless bottles are pretty useless in my experience too. I tried everything to stop mine falling off. In the end the only way was for it to fall off halfway down a gnarly descent never to be seen again. Maybe i was unlucky….?

I spoke to 2 lads at the Dunkeld enduro last week who had fabirc bottles, both reckoned they were solid and hadn’t fallen off, both of them were regulars up there, and also bloody rapid, so I decided to buy one.

Turns out the bolt location on my Bronson doesn’t work with them, it’s too near the BB so the bottle doesn’t engage.

Shame, as I hate to sully the bike with a cage, hey ho, back to the zee.

I’ve lost two from the bike in 8 months use (one permanently when I first used them, the other I found again). Both times I lost a bottle it was because I hadn’t secured the bottle correctly into its slots and I lost them on the first decent of the day.
They maybe normal size bottles but the way they mount saves the space. You need about 2cm of. Movement for and aft to get them in (just make sure it’s secure when you do).

OT but, I’ve got 2 of the Fabric bottles, they’ve been grand tbh but I know other people have had problems. One I use as a light battery holder, teh other as a… uh, water bottle. I’m not a big bottle user so I don’t like having a permanent cage on bikes that only carry one once in a blue moon.

(you can’t use it the same way as you would a standard bottle, putting it back in on the move is too fiddly)

I tried everything and know in every instance the bottle was attached properly as it “clicked” into place. In the end i had the bosses up ridiculously tight to “squash the studs” I was using the bigger bottle on a hardtail so, maybe the added weight and rougher ride didnt help, maybe my bottle was faulty. Who knows, but I wont bother wasting £13 or however much it was on one again.

I’ve used the Fabric cageless bottle on my old SB66 – on the downtube – it didn’t miss a beat and was always solid (you can adjust how tight it clips on by tightening the actual bolts which in turn squeezes the plastic lugs).

Bought a smaller one for my 2016 Nomad but it didn’t fit so its going back. I have instead ended up with a metal bottle cage and an Elite 500ml bottle which seems to fit fine. Whilst the metal cage is heavier it looks a lot cleaner and simple than a plastic side loaded IMO.

Not quite a 500ml bottle, but I’ve found the Elite Youth bottle/cage for £7 – 350ml so should fit a small space?

SIS ones seem pretty short and usually cheap, bought a few for my road bike

Got one of them and it doesn’t fit.

Every single 500ml bottle I’ve got or examined in a shop is basically identical length wise. They’re pretty much all 185mm, excluding the nozzle.

There are a few variants actually, this is the one I was thinking of…

But if its that tight I guess that won’t help either.

Or a triathalon style seatpost/saddle cage?

The new Elite Fly is not only the lightest waterbottle ever it’s also only 158mm tall excluding nozzle. Maybe that would work?

Popped into Halfords yesterday, and their £1.99 basic bottle looked pretty short. The cap from a Camelbak Podium fits too..

Elite Fly as Simon says – full 500ml, great valve (that’s also easy to clean) and also biodegradable.

Idiotdogbrain before you swap out your bottle have you tried the SM-BA01 mount adaptor? We use them on our bikes with reservoirs to move the bolts about.

ended up going with the YT bottles. At least I got two for my money 😥

Bottle is quite a bit smaller than a standard 500ml bottle and even then the clearance is tight

That’s a rock guard right? You weren’t seriously using that to drink out of were you? (There’s no being sick emoji)
