Is there any point in cleaning and degreasing a chain on a Single Speed?

Just keep it lubed and that’s it right?

    A chain is a chain.

If you don’t clean it, it’ll make horrible noises and then snap.

If you do clean it, it’ll last a lot longer, have less drag, make less noise and then eventually snap 🙂

Haven’t degreased any of my chains on the SS’s or the geared bikes for years. They get a blast with the hose pipe occasionally(if I wash the bike) or the odd wipe with a rag & then a relube, but that’s it……

In the winter i go for weeks and the only cleaning the ss gets is quick wire brush of the chain when the mud has dried and a quick squirt of lube.

Takes me 5 minutes (or less) to run it through a park tools chain cleaner, then slap on some Tf2 spray.

    Hardly a hardship.

Degreaser + TF2.. 😯 I bet your chains last forever!

If the bike needs hosing and brushing, then the chain gets that too, otherwise I’ll run it through a rag and use a special patented blend of used fork oil and shimano brake oil.. The geared bikes use Squirt, so I just swish the chain under hot water and chuck it on the radiator.
