Apologies if this has already been mentioned on here but I’ve just been to this tonight and it left me feeling utterly breathless. I can’t remember the last time I saw a film that hooked me and emotionally battered me like this one did. I don’t mind admitting that despite it not being in anyway a tear jerker or overtly emotionally manipulative I was welling up at the end as I was so emotionally involved with the whole thing. I felt foolish until the lights went up and saw half the audience wiping tears from their eyes. can’t recommend it enough. An incredible piece of cinema.

no spoilers please, I intend on watching this on a date night with the ‘boss’. I’m paying apparently so I have the choice! I chose Capt. Phillips. I don’t want to waste my money by knowing what happens!

At the very least, A spoiler alert please!

Wait and see A Hijacking, it’s a Danish low-budget movie about a freighter hijacked by Somali pirates. Very tense and very scary.

If you read the articles in the New York Times you’ll see it was a work of fiction, apparently Captain Philips was an incompetent fool who got them all in trouble. Company rules were to sail at least 600 miles off the coast to avoid pirates, they were attacked 240 miles off the coast (on their own, 360 miles from the ‘shipping lane’ and other vessels)….

I was referring to the level of boredom more than the level of fact 😆

    Good film. Really well done.

The true story seems a little different – Capt Philips was anything but a hero and ignored many warnings about Pirates in order to save money by sailing a shorter course.

Apparently they were doing a lifeboat drill when the Pirates approached but Philips insisted on completing it rather than implementing the anti-pirate measures.

All the Pirates were really young – even the leader was only 18.

Anyway, never let the truth get in the way of a good movie. 🙂

I feel a bit sorry for the crew of the ship, the film portrays them as incompetent and Philips as the hero when it appears the converse was true. They must be pretty pissed off……..

I have no idea how you could possibly have been bored.

Blimey, thought it was just me 🙂
Last time I gave him the benefit of the doubt I think was ‘Road to Perdition’ and he put on some stupid pointless accent.
Can just about stand Toy Story
