    Cheap and nasty Epson XP-312 and OS X clients if it makes any difference. I want to use the scanning function, but I can’t find a definite answer about it working.

    I would doubt it – the Mac/PC would need direct communication. I think the AE acts as a print server which isn’t enough for scanning.
