as in mud guards? Crud Roadracer Mk2’s are likely to fit.

Ye still can’t decide between this and the Kona Honky Tonk

Kona HT is slightly heavier, steel and more of an all rounder, easy to fit guards

Specy is insanely light for the money and more racy, but less guard friendly I was thinking

Whichever I buy I’d like to use in winter in all but the crappiest of conditions

I used to have an allez with raceblades but now switched to a more winter, mudguard friendly and wider tyred comfortable tricross.
It will take an 700 tyre within reason.

Can’t fit proper guards to an allez, but crud roadracers will go on

I have SKS raceblades on mine which do the trick of keeping arse dry. Don’t stop frame/mech getting messy but the aforementioned cruds offer more protection.

think the weight difference between the two bikes is only 2bs

the Allez is the lighter and has a more aggressive riding position

how do you like yours (allez) Fopster?

H4RDT4IL R1D3R are you noticing the extra weight of the cyclo-cross bike, are you finding it noticably slower on roads?

Presumably you can fit road tyres to a cyclocross bike

Have a look at the cannondale synapse alu. The new 2011 ones take full guards, they look really nice

You can fit full SKS guards on the Trek 1 series, if that helps.
Evans have the Kona on sale at the moment though & it’s such a good looking bike.

hmm Cannondale looks nice but is probably more than I want to spend

If I was going to to spend a lot it would surely be this 😈

    Whats your budget?

The Allez is nice for sure, depends on whether you’re happy with Roadracer style mudguards.

Probably 500-600. This to me seems to get a good value bike and light enough.

I think I’m unlikely to go over that unless there’s a very good reason.

    How about this?

I have the Aether 20 (same frame and fork) for a winter bike, it’s really nice and takes full guards.

(I wanted the Cannondale but was out of my budget too, happy with the Genesis.)

I had an early Tricross and it was horrible, weighed a ton, horrible geometry. Now got an Allez for commuting on, it’s marginally better, still got a 900mm headtube! Personally prefer the geometry of the Trek. YMMV and that.

Incidentally run Race Blades on my Allez, Crud guards are toss, just not durable enough if you actually use the bike IME.
