Need a little help. New to this camping stove lark, so just after some advice.

I have just received a Fire Maple FMS117T stove, bought some gas to have a play and discovered that it does this –

Surely that amount of orange isn’t normal? A quick look online suggests there might not be enough air?

    BUT

I then popped a MSR Pocket Rocket on there which I’ve had for a few months and never used and got this –

The picture doesn’t really show it, but a very orange flame again.

Is an orange flame normal? Too much gas? Problem with the gas?

    Hmm.

Touch the flame and see if it’s hot. it definitely looks like a cold flame to me.

stick a pan on it – stuff will get sooty if theres not enough air and the gas is burning incompletely.

Have you tried holding the flame upside down?

    Jetboil, nonsense.

This is STW, he needs a wood burner. Titanium as well.

Is the stove in the first pic just burning off the finish? That would explain the less than clean flame.

Globalti – That thought did cross my mind. Brand new, so maybe. How long would it take?

Shake the gas canister before connecting it up, mixes the two gases which will give you a more even and consistent burn throughout the canister life… Apart from that, if its hot you can cook on it…

So an orange flame isn’t really anything to worry about?

Doesn’t an orange flame indicate too much air? Vaguely remember that from GCSE physics. I’d go with ‘it’s new’ though I reckon.

Also, turn it down a bit?

I’ll use it and see what happens.

It even happens when it is super low.
