    Re:-painting decking!!

The previous occupants painted the decking with a green paint that is now wearing through to the wood.

    – What do you reckon? Sand it down and then re-paint with a couple of coats?

Would a pressure washer blast it clean sufficiently?

    Any tips on paint?

I don’t think a stain type treatment would work due to the age of the wood?

Jet wash, apply some decking cleaner first.

cool, will look into that decking cleaner.

Do you think it will be ok to paint on again after using the decking cleaner? Or would a stain treatment be better?

It gets a lot of use – so it needs to be pretty hard-wearing

Rip it up and put paving down!

    + 1

Decking is unhygienic, dangerous, and maintenance dependent.

    ……and aesthetically displeasing IMHO

    Decking is unhygienic

People tend to use plates and stuff when eating al-fresco, not just chuck the food out the kitchen window and eat it from where it lands?

Well if you are going to be posh and use plates, there is still a risk that food might drop between the gaps from whence it cannot be retrieved. It will then putrefy and attract maggots and other foul creatures which thrive in a constantly damp environment – no such problem with paving. Plus a decking labyrinth provides a paradise for rats.
