One of the saplings/young trees on our street broke in the wind yesterday. There’s just a it’s barely attached to the trunk.

Is there a way of saving it?

Could we use a couple of splints and a few rolls of self amalgamating tape to form a bandage then remove it next season?

    Will this work?

We’d like to save it as it took a lot of hassle getting the council to put trees in the first place and they do make our street look much nicer.

    Thanks in advance

That’s what my mum did and it healed itself nicely – although a little disfigured at the join!

    I’d just leaf it alone.

Have you asked the council to replace it?

There’s a small chance it’d scar over if you support it but there’s also a chance that dormant buds below the wound will become active (same as pruning), though any fresh growth now would obviously suffer in the winter.

The risk is that a messy break could let disease etc in and cause problems.
