After another brompton drivetrain failure, its time to consider an upgrade.

Every year or two (1000-2000 miles), one part of the brompton drivetrain seems to let me down catastrophically – broken pedals/cranks/spindle – is there an alternative to the standard kit that’s a bit more hardwearing? Happy to sacrifice some weight for something that’s a bit more dependable.

Never had any similar problems on the mountain bike, so surely there must be something out there.

    Any recommendations?

For alternate cranks, I like the Genetic Heritage ones – look good and seem tough. But they’re 53t as standard, so maybe a bit high geared unless you’ve got a Rohloff, or change the chainring. And bung in a Shimano bottom bracket.

For pedals, there’s not much that folds – some people keep the folding left pedal but replace the right. Or fit MKS removable pedals.

Thanks Ben, I’ll take a look at that.
    Cheers
