I’m building my first single speed with a 32 chain ring up front and wondering if I should fit a bash guard. I’m about to buy some chainring bolts so have to get the right length ones. It’s a Truvativ bash guard so I’m hoping the 13mm bolts will be long enough as the guard is fatter than most where the bolts go through.

I flit between 38/28 tooth front rings depending on where I’m riding & IME there’s no need for one.

fitted one…then took it off as it looked silly. Chain should protect it from most things XC riding and singletrack will throw at you. Unless you tend to really smack stuff I wouldnt bother.

Don’t bother with one – the chain will protect the chainring and all a bash does is collect crap between it and the chain.

i put one on, but only as i already had it, and it saved me buying short bolts…
