[Closed] Baggies - liners or bibs under ?

I have always worn baggies with liners (clickfast Endura) in summer and in winter dhb bib longs under a pair of baggies.

Got me thinking about bib shorts under baggies for summer, surely more comfy than click in liners ? Only downside being pee stops I guess ?

Pearl izumi and specialized do some bib liners, which are made of more suitable (cooler) materials than normal bibs. I think the specialized ones have cycling jersey style rear pockets which seems a needless complication to me, and I think the latest PI ones have a fly. Ikeep meaning to buy some to give a try, I don't get on well with normal liners would much prefer bibs.

Yeah, I have loads of bib shorts and 3/4s for road rides so thinking its a better option than new click in liners...

Sounds interesting - though I don't have big issues with normal bibs under baggies being too hot. Personally I have lots of bib shorts - some of which aren't fit to be seen out in public on their own, but work really well under baggies. Same reasons for wearing those as for wearing bibs rather than waist short on their own - just a lot more comfortable, which is the most important thing for me.

Just use bibs, shorts make me hot. Why use them apart from fashion

No liner! Feel the breeze! Harden up you perineum. You should be good for 5 -6 hours of riding.

<shrug> well if out riding just to go riding a bike I do wear bibs. If out for a social ride, or more particularly if riding to the park with kids where it's not all about the riding, lycra somehow doesn't seem the most suitable attire - would you put on bike shorts to go down the pub?

I've tried clip in liners (Endura/Gore), and Lightweight 'undershorts' (Mavic). All of them either bunch up or get pulled out of place by the overshorts. Bibs everytime now

Iain, I got a couple of pairs of Madison peloton from the shop, 2 pairs for 70 quid. Reckon Large would fit you, they are great, really good pad, great below baggies and even acceptable on the road bike.

๐Ÿ™‚

Aside from making that slip onto the top tube a tad less painful I'm struggling to see the benefit of hardening up one's gooch...

Edit : [After seeing the typo] Ignore if you're attempting to insult someone on the thread, of course.

we stop at pub on ride, grab food etc yeah

going oput for evening Id throw my jeans on

shorts are hot and catch the seat, worse in the wet the hold a gallon water and droop causing more problem.

When its cold in winter, yup I wear my shorts or enduro single track trousrs and keep warm. In the summer? Nah

Well there you go. If I'm doing something where biking is just a subsidiary part of the activity I'll wear something which is most appropriate for the main thing. Don't even always wear bike shorts or liners underneath.

I do somehow seem to have slipped into the habit of wearing baggies all the time on the uni though - I guess logically I'm more likely to and up sliding in a way which would rip through lycra, but I'm not sure there's much more logic behind it.

Is that not the reason most people where baggies, they rip less easy than lycra and offer more protection in a fall. Plus I don't want to shit up my decent lycra on the trails.

The amount I crash i'd need a new set of bibs every couple of rides off road!!

I do where bibs under baggies sometimes though.

+1 for bibs under baggies. I don't get that tightness across the lower back with bibs that I do with liners.

. Why use them apart from fashion

That's the main reason, seems reasonable. I tend to try and avoid dressing like a muppet the rest of the time, why should the bike be any different?

I've got some of these.

A bit expensive but the best baggy liner combo I've ever used. The liner has an all important slit for comfort breaks.

Why bibs? I just wear a normal pair of padded shorts under my baggies.

Never got on with the clip in liners, always caused me grief...if you know what I mean.

Why bibs?

Miles comfier, pad stays in place, cover kidney area to keep warm in winter etc etc...

don't use clip in liners at all. Got three sets of baggies (had 4 but tore my waterproof ones last night, RIP faithful shorts) and several padded shorts and bibs to wear under them. Never had any problems because the shorts weren't somehow attached...

I wouldn't advise expensive bibs under baggies though - the baggies will burn holes in the lycra from seam friction

the straps annoy me on bibs, but I must be in the minority.

really ?

I'd have thought it wouldn't be that much different to lycra bibs moving around on a saddle etc on road bike ?

I've just ordered some DHB Aeron Pro's for under my baggies ๐Ÿ™

You're meant to put a winky symbol on the end so everybody knows you are joking.

These do sound interesting; anyone any experience of them/anyone else make?

Convert to bibs, use them all the time now, fine during a Tasmanian Summer so can't be that hot. Proper bib shorts are much easier than bib tights to pee in (unless your a lady) much more comfortable and stay in place. As for why wear baggies the right ones are great, offer more protection against the floor and the elements.

Maybe thinking too much about this! I don't use anything other than my man pants under my baggies, but if it's necessary I'll just chuck on some normal lycra shorts. Don't have to be 'liner' branded!
