saw the epic trailer for it last night & wouldn’t mind picking up a copy of the book.

The movie certainly looks spectacular/confusing mess

it’s not just that nothing happens, but it drags like a dead dog.

It was a while ago that I read it, so I can’t quite remember – it wouldn’t be my normal type of read but it certainly kept me hooked in. It’s kinda hard to describe it.

I do wonder sometimes though, why people struggle through books they’re clearly not enjoying.

It is nearish to the top of my to read heap staring at me reproachfully. As soon as I finish the official history of MI5 I may give it a shot.

Think of it as a mountain bike ride – the first half is lots of fire road with nice views and the odd more interesting bit thrown in. The view from the top is great and sets you up for an awesome descent, where all the stuff you see on the way up comes back to you.

I started out reading it with a bit of scepticism but ended up enjoying it.

I’ve got two copies, it was given away as part of World Book Night a couple of years back. Happy to post one on if you want it?

Get past the stodgy first chapter and it’s all good.

It was a marmite book in this house. I liked it but MrsDonald didn’t.

Great book, also Black Swan Green by the same author is even better.

hmmm i struggled with it, must try it again. on the subject of books that don’t go any where, try any haruki murakami. absolutely gripping, all of them, but not much happens, and what does happen, happens slowly. i would recommend any of them as my favourite read

That. Cloud Atlas is great, but can be hard work at times. BSG is a page turner from the first moment.

Hadn’t heard of the book before, now bought. Kindles are great!

I read it with no particular expectations – borrowed it from Mrs Fopster and we do not normally share a taste (she refuses to even try a Raymond Chandler – a hanging offence in my view).

I thought it was great. Quite unusual, and the mix of styles inherent in the the story (trying to avoid spoilers) was very convincingly done, I thought.

Would imagine it would be very hard to make it into a film but full marks to anyone crazy enough to give it a go!

great book, makes you think, I love books that challenge your everyday thoughts as to what is normal. The food for the clones is the shocker moment.

That’s really something that nobody should admit to in public 🙁

I’ve been trying to work it out for ages, but I give up.

What is Raymond Chandler rhyming slang for then?

    I tried, but couldn’t.

Black Swan Green however, was great.
