    My other half is after a new laptop, she’d like a good spec with blueray player and separate graphics card for decent performance, anyone know of some good deals of good machines to look at?

    Asus N56VM meets those reqs, make sure to go for the one with the 1920×1080 screen, there is a slightly cheaper version that has a smaller res screen so avoid.

    If she can do without the the BluRay then I can recommend the Samsung Series 7 Chronos http://www.johnlewis.com/231650214/Product.aspx as a very good choice. Treated myself to one on Friday as a replacement to a geriatric five year old Macbook. Excellent build and it handles demanding games at ease.
