I’m considering a career switch to GE (Energy)

Does anyone work for GE and can offer any advise on HR issues, what they are generally like to work for etc ?

    Hello.

Which part of energy you looking at working for?

The good stuff: they are massive, with big budgets for technology development etc. They are very much into compliance with laws and regulations. This includes HR law. So are good that way. Pay rises are performance related. and Pay is reasonable but not amazing.

the bad stuff: they are massive, sometimes to do anything you have to fight through layers of management and/or computer workflows. depending on the business leadership “the numbers” are sometimes more important than doing the right thing. they are a bit too US centric for a global business. There are too many buzz-words used.

Overall, i have previously looked at leaving. Nowadays, I’m happy to get on with what I’m doing and not let the annoying things get to me. To be honest I think things have improved in my business over the last few years and look to get better in the next few. plus I’ve recently had a flexi-working request accepted which is going to give me more incentive to stay put. Plus my commute involves a nice route through wooded singletrack, that clears the head pre-and post work. 😉

drop me an email if you want anything more. (in profile)

Yeah, I work for GE Energy too… It’s a broad church and they do many things, which bit are you looking at?

I work for GE (Gentleman Ecstasy magazine, that is). Does that help? I actually have some photos of SuperSesh 9-2 at the *other* GE (whilst sweaty, semi-clad in lycra after a singletrack commute), if they are of use.
