Have a Mondeo Mk3 tdci 53 plate, noticed the other day that the driver side main beam was not working.

So got a new bulb and fitted it today after work, light still does not work. Have changed fuse behind glove box for main beam and one in the engine bay for headlight and still not working.

Thinking that I may have had a duff new bulb, I took the one from the passenger side and put it in the driver side, GUESS WHAT, still not working…..

Any ideas for anything else that might be worth checking…

    Thanks in advance..

Use multi meter to test for power at the bulb socket . Make sure you use a different earth, battery neg best.
If you have power then your earth is duff, if no power then repeat at next furthest connection.
When you get power then you’ll know where the break is.

Relay (no idea if there will be one, but might be)

Failing that Ford wiring is worse than italian wiring at their magneto mirelli finest IMO, get the multimeter out and start playing hunt the loose/corroded/broken connector.

Make sure you got the right fuse for the headlamp. Use a multimeter and make sure your getting 12volts at the fuse. do the same to one in the engine bay. then at the bulb holder.

If its all ok till you hit the bulb holder chances are its a wiring fault.
If you can isolate the loom and continuity check it in stages hopefully this will tell you where the fault lies. its just a case of repairing it then.

If your not getting any power to the fuses then it starts getting tricky and time to get someone who has a bit of knowledge.

As above have said but check for power at headlight fuse in fusebox – ok? . check for power at bulb holder – not ok? = break in continuity. Trace headlamp feed wire with power on and headlights on, wiggle and flex headlight wire gently as you work along it as much as you can (engine bay will be really tight but borrow a small childs arm for this job), pay attention to where it passes over or round items in the engine bay etc and with a bit of luck you’ll find the break as the headlights will either flickr on or the fuse will blow when you hit the jackpot.

I don’t know how tight the engine bay in the mondeo but you should have room.

Check the earths on the inner wing, they have a habit of corroding at the eyelets. Also check for corosion at the multiplug on the back of the lamp unit, uncommon but worth a look.
