    I just remove my shock to send off for a service, only to find there is no bushing at the bottom end (29er). Judging by the tolerances on the pivot bolt that’d be right, but it just strikes me as bizarre!

    It’s correct. There’s no movement there.

    As above there is no movement on the bottom fixing.
