alfine 8 service /oil bath question alternative oil to shimano?

Hi folks another alfine question sorry
what alternative oil have you been using for giving the alfine internals an oil bath?

i have just given my io id 2009 a bit of tlc
new chain ring,chain and sprocket.
i had a go at the hub and managed to split the alfine and gave it a dip in some 15wt suspension fluid to give it a flush out.

so before i rebuid what alternative oil should i use ?
transmission fluid? if so what type/weight?

People have used ATF I believe - I chickened out and paid to have mine dipped in the magic shimano oil in the end

And the advice for the 11? Katie's needs doing. Can you flush it with Rohloff cleaner then oil?

and a few more threads on here. I would go for a synthetic atf perhaps if such things exists. have a search for epicylos threads - I think he has some views on it
